"William Jarvis" (Ship)
The ship "William Jarvis" was built at Castine, Maine in 1848 by Samuel Noyes. It was rated at 668 tons and was 142.3' x 32.1' x 16.1'. It had a billet head and square stern. Francis H. Jarvis was the master in 1848. The members of the Jarvis family were from Castine; John Head Jarvis operated in Castine with William Witherle from 1810-1844. The owners of the ship were John H. Jarvis, John H. Jarvis Jr., Frederick A. Jarvis, William Jarvis, Francis H. Jarvis, and Isaiah Wescott. Built for the packet trade, she was under the management of the Black Star Line, 1849; the Train Line, 1851; and the Brigham Line, 1854, 1857.
