Cores [Cowes?] Mrs.
According to his diary, Samuel Sawyer bought a painting for her for $50 at the National Sailor's Fair at the Boston Athenaeum in 1864. He then purchased the frame for $18. According to exhibition records, two Lane paintings were exhibited at that fair: G. B. Upton exhibited "Boston Harbor" (no. 247) and Thomas Wigglesworth, Jr. exhibited "Morning" (no. 377). It is unclear whether one of those was the one Sawyer describes purchasing.
