Bradford, William
William Bradford was born April 30, 1823 in Fairhaven, Massachusetts. According to John Trask, Bradford studied with Lane, and there are some similarities to be seen in their work. He began studying marine art in 1853 with Albert Van Beest in a shared Fairhaven studio. Bradford's early work focused on portraits of ships in New Bedford Harbor. He went on several Arctic expeditions and is known for his paintings of ships and Arctic seascapes. Bradford travelled the world giving lectures and pursuing his art through the 1880s before his death in New York City on April 25, 1892.
