Center & Co.

Center & Co. was a stationery store on Main Street run by Henry Center and his cousin Addison Center (the artist) until Addison joined the army during the Civil War. Henry married Almira Jones of 3 Church Street in the Swedenborgian Church. He also became City Auditor and was fond of singing. The telegraph office was in the store.

"MARINE PAINTING. – F. H. Lane, Esq., has recently finished a beautiful painting, representing a scene in our harbor, which is now on exhibition at Center & Co's. It was painted for Ripley Ropes, of Salem, and is a most spirited and life like production."
