Commentary

This print, known as both "The Prisoner of Chillon" or "Byron's Dungeon," is neither signed nor dated. The impression at the American Antiquarian Society has a notation in pencil that the print was designed by Lane, an attribution accepted by John Wilmerding in his 1963 article on Lane's lithographs.
