Scott, John W. A.

Fitz Henry Lane and his former colleague at Pendleton’s, John White Allen Scott (1815–1907) formed their own publishing and printing partnership with Lane, based at 16 Tremont Temple in Boston in 1844. Like Lane, Scott was interested in a career as a fine artist and had started exhibiting paintings at various venues including the Boston Athenaeum. Lane and Scott and other apprentices in the Pendleton and Moore companies would have learned business skills as well as artistry. Lane’s fellow draftsmen, John H. Bufford, Nathaniel Currier, and Moses Swett, all went on to manage lithography firms.
