On drawing Blue Hill, Maine, 1851 (inv. 244) there is a pencil inscription: "Blue Hill Me. Aug 1851 / F.H. Lane; Inscribed lower left (in pencil): Painting made from this sketch / purchased by Peters of Boston." This is believed to be Edw. D. Peters who was a commission merchant in Boston, with an office located at 12 Central Wharf, and who is known to have purchased other paintings from Lane during this period.
