Commentary
The location of the harbor depicted in this painting has not been determined, although some have speculated that it could be Portland, Maine. Certainly the prominence of the lumber brigs indicate a Maine location. There are many different kinds of vessels shown here at sunset: a schooner, a schooner boat (New England type), and a yawl boat under sail.
